I decided I wanted to become a counsellor many years ago, and as soon as the opportunity arose I went into training. During my training I had personal counselling and found a new way of being. I came to really understand myself and change the way I think and behave. I found a new trust and confidence that has enabled me to offer this to the people I work with. I understand how it is to take the plunge into having counselling.
I have always had an interest in psychology, what makes people tick and why people react in different ways to similar events and situations. I have also had a very real life and understand the struggles and heartache of living.
I believe that everyone has the ability to make changes in their lives and their thinking, and work towards a happier way of being. I am constantly in awe of the transformation that people can make through counselling and I feel privileged to be able to be a part of it.
I’m particularly interested in relationships (partners, family, friends and colleagues) and how small changes to communication can make big differences to the dynamics of the relationship. However I also love to work with people with a range of other issues going on in their lives. Some of these are listed on the Welcome page, and in more detail on the Subjects page. If what is going on for you is not on these pages, do feel free to contact me as my list doesn’t include everything we experience.
I offer all my clients empathy (striving to place myself in your position – what it is like for you personally in your situation), congruence (being real and honest), and unconditional positive regard (I will not judge you – I will accept you as you are). I provide a warm and compassionate approach and work collaboratively with people to enable them to understand themselves and make their own choices. I believe that at the heart of counselling is the all-important relationship between counsellor and client, and I strive to nurture this relationship of trust and honesty.
